George was born in 1847 in Goudhurst, Kent.  George's father was George Lambert STANLEY and his mother was Keturah UDALL.  His paternal grandparents were David STANLEY and Ann LAMBERT; his maternal grandparents were Jesse UDALL and Ann. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Gordon Lambert, David, Horace, Albert Edger, Herbert Henry, Jesse Augustus, Catherine Southey, Edith Keturah and Mary Keturah.
