Catherine was born on October 18th, 1820 in Horsmonden, Kent.  Catherine's father was James STANLEY and her mother was Mary Anne BATHURST.  Her paternal grandparents were Zebulon STANLEY and Ann SHAW. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Benjamin, John Wesley Ashby, Charles, S, Ann and Abigail.  She was the second oldest of the seven children.
