Dorothy was born in 1884 in Freeland, Oxfordshire.  Dorothy's father was Jesse DIX and her mother was Eliza WHITE.  Her maternal grandparents were Joseph WHITE and Alice GARDNER. She had a brother and three sisters, named Charles E, Amy, Edith Jane and Ruth.  She was the second youngest of the five children. She had a half-brother and four half-sisters, named Thomas Benjamin, Alice, Mary Elizabeth, Florence Rosina and Blanch Ellen.
