Thomas was born in 1792.  Thomas' father was Stephen Chambers Newberry Sr and his mother was Sarah (Sallie) Chambers.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Newberry and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were Elijah Chambers and Rebecca Moore. He had six brothers and five sisters, named Edward, Stephen, Elijah, William, James, Joseph, Rhoda, Mary, Polly, Matilda and Cynthia.  He died at the age of 85 in 1877.
