Joseph was born in 1812.  Joseph's father was Stephen Chambers Newberry Sr and his mother was Sarah (Sallie) Chambers.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Newberry and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were Elijah Chambers and Rebecca Moore. He had six brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, Edward, Stephen, Elijah, William, James, Rhoda, Mary, Polly, Matilda and Cynthia.  Matilda and Joseph were twins.  He died at the age of 70 in 1882.
