Joseph was born in 1783.  Joseph's father was James Christy and his mother was Mary Campbell.  His paternal grandparents were Andrew Christy and Mary Margaret Wilson; his maternal grandfather was Thomas Campbell and his maternal grandmother is <Unknown>. He had five brothers and two sisters, named John, Andrew, William, Jermy, James, Jannet and Sarah.  He was the second youngest of the eight children. He had a half-brother and four half-sisters, named David, Nancy, Mary, Ann and Jane.  He died at the age of 98 in 1881.
