Jean was born on March 19th, 1701 in Rillaar.  Jean's father was Marcus Vlemis (Marc) and his mother was Maria Custers.  His paternal grandparents were Marcus Vleminx and Adriana Nys. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Henri, Philippe, Marc, Arnauld, Gérard, Adrienne, Elisabeth, Marie and Anne.  He was the fifth youngest of the ten children. He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Gérard, Cathérine and Anne.
