Gérard was born on February 27th, 1714 in Rillaar.  Gérard's father was Marcus Vlemis (Marc) and his mother was Maria Dierckx.  His paternal grandparents were Marcus Vleminx and Adriana Nys. He had two sisters named Cathérine and Anne.  He was the second oldest of the three children. He had six half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Henri, Philippe, Jean, Marc, Arnauld, Gérard, Adrienne, Elisabeth, Marie and Anne.
