Petronella was born on March 5th, 1784 in Lubbeek.  Petronella's father was Joannes Babtista Ons and her mother was Barbara Verbeek.  Her paternal grandparents were Petrus Ons and Maria Minnen. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Joannes Babtista, Petrus, Theodorus, Anna Maria, Jacobus, Anna Elisabeth and Maria Elisabeth.  She was the second oldest of the eight children. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Ons and Petronella.
