Henry was born on February 25th, 1819 in Trimley, St Martin. Henry's father was Robert Topple and his mother was Elizabeth Smith. He was the fourth of five children. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Samuel, Isaac, Lydia and Elizabeth. He had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Robert, John, George, Mary and Sarah.
