Mary was born in year 1818 in Mawgan, Cornwall and was baptised on July 20th, 1818.  Mary's father was George Whitaker and her mother was Jane Langdon.  Her maternal grandparents were  William Langdon and  Jane Bullock.  She was the sixth of seven children.  She had four brothers and two sisters, named George, George, George, William, Isabella and Emma.
