Emma was born in year 1811 in Mawgan, Cornwall. Emma's father was George Whitaker and her mother was Jane Langdon. Her maternal grandparents were William Langdon and Jane Bullock. She was the third of seven children. She had four brothers and two sisters, named George, George, George, William, Isabella and Mary. She died, at the age of 63 years, on January 21st, 1874 in Rotherhithe.
