David, known as David, was born on February 14th, 1861.  David's father was William GEARHART and his mother was Catherine HOWER.  His paternal grandparents were Peter GEARHART and Katherine KOSTENBAUDER. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Lawson, Tobias, Franklin, Christan, Mary, Fianna, Lanna, Lydia and Cathrin.  He was the oldest of the ten children.
