James Petty

James was born in 1846 in Darley, Menwith, Hampsthwaite, Yorkshire, England.¹ James' father was George Petty and his mother was Hannah Brewer. His paternal grandmother was Jane. He had six brothers and five sisters, named John, William, Thomas, Joseph, Benjamin, Charles, Mary, Jane, Hannah, Elizabeth and Sarah. He was the nineth oldest of the twelve children.
