August's father was Friedrich Jon “Fred” Sprecher and his mother was Louise “Christine” Gruning (Sprecher) Grunning. His paternal grandparents were Gottfried Sprecher and Anna Katharina Sokolosky (Sprecher). He had six brothers and four sisters, named Christian, Friedrick, Gottlieb, Carl, Samuel, Dan, Anna, Juliana, Louisa and Christina. He was the seventh oldest of the eleven children. He had a half-brother named Michael. He died at the age of 1 on November 2nd, 1856 in Leipzig (Leibzig), Bessarabia, Russia (now Ukraine).¹
