Friedrich was born on January 14th, 1846 in Leipzig (Leibzig), Bessarabia, Russia (now Ukraine).1  Friedrich's father was Karl Kautz and his mother was Karolina Wilhelmina Sprecher (Kautz, Hennig).  His maternal grandparents were Gottfried Sprecher and Anna Katharina Sokolosky (Sprecher). He had a brother and three sisters, named Johann, Maria, Louise and Justina.  He was the oldest of the five children. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Samuel, Christina, Susanna and Karolina.

Friedrich and Louisa were married in a religious & civil ceremony on February 4th, 1866.1
