Susanna was born on August 9th, 1858 in Leipzig (Leibzig), Bessarabia, Russia (now Ukraine).1  Susanna's father was Johann Hennig and her mother was Karolina Wilhelmina Sprecher (Kautz, Hennig).  Her maternal grandparents were Gottfried Sprecher and Anna Katharina Sokolosky (Sprecher). She had a brother and two sisters, named Samuel, Christina and Karolina.  She was the second oldest of the four children. She had two half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Friedrich, Johann, Maria, Louise and Justina.

Susanna and Philip were married in a religious & civil ceremony on June 13th, 1884 in Kishinew (Kishinev, Chişinău), Bessarabia, Russia (now Moldova).1
