Mary was born in 1837.  Mary's father was John Barclay and her mother was Mary Wallace.  Her maternal grandparents were James Wallace and Jane Bone. She had two brothers and three sisters, named John, James, Jane, Jessie and Elizabeth.  She was the third oldest of the six children.
