George was born on February 4th, 1829 in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire.  George's father was John Linkleter and his mother was Elizabeth Murray.  His paternal grandparents were Andrew Linklater and Elizabeth Arthurson; his maternal grandparents were Alexander Murray and <Unknown>.  He had four brothers and three sisters, named Alexander, Andrew, William, James, Margaret, Eliza and Jane.
