Alexander was born on July 3rd, 1825.  Alexander's father was John Linkleter and his mother was Elizabeth Murray.  His paternal grandparents were Andrew Linklater and Elizabeth Arthurson; his maternal grandparents were Alexander Murray and <Unknown>.  He had four brothers and three sisters, named Andrew, George, William, James, Margaret, Eliza and Jane.
