Mary was born on August 31st, 1857.¹ Mary's father was Philip Temple Matthews and her mother was Minerva Moffitt. Her maternal grandparents were John Moffitt II and Maraget Dawson. She had a brother and two sisters, named John, Lucy and Margaret. She was the second oldest of the four children. She died at the age of 83 in November 1940 in Chillicothe, IL.¹
