Jitske was born on August 12th, 1822 in Rinsumageest.  Jitske's father was Hendrik Eelkes Kooistra and her mother was Antje Durks Vellinga.  Her paternal grandparents were Eelke Ruurds Kooistra and Antje Hendriks. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Durk, Eelke, Antje, Dirkje and Grietje.  She was the oldest of the six children.  She died at the age of 45 on February 13th, 1868.
