Grietje was born on February 9th, 1841 in Rinsumageest.  Grietje's father was Hendrik Eelkes Kooistra and her mother was Antje Durks Vellinga.  Her paternal grandparents were Eelke Ruurds Kooistra and Antje Hendriks. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Durk, Eelke, Jitske, Antje and Dirkje.  She was the youngest of the six children.  She died at the age of 79 on August 9th, 1920 in Leeuwarden.
