Elizabeth was born on March 1st, 1829.  Elizabeth's father was Moses Wilkinson Whitehead and her mother was Jemima Farrar.  Her paternal grandparents were James Whitehead and Elizabeth Unknown; her maternal grandparents were John Farrar and Hannah Eccles. She had four sisters named Jane Farrar, Jemima Ann, Elizabeth Mary and Hannah.  She was the fourth oldest of the five children.
