Cradock was born on September 11th, 1824 in Port Elizabeth.  Cradock's father was John Parkin and his mother was Elizabeth Howard. He had six brothers and three sisters, named William, John, Robert, George, Isaac, Frederick, Elizabeth, Jane and Charlotte.  He was the eighth oldest of the ten children. He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Alfred, Thomas, Maria Magdalena and Martha Suzanna.  He died at the age of 90 on April 3rd, 1915 in Port Elizabeth.
