Joseph was born in Charlestown, Suffolk, Massachusetts.1   Joseph's father was Thomas Frothingham and his mother was Mary Frothingham.  His paternal grandparents were Nathaniel Frothingham and Mary Kettle; his maternal grandparents were Andrew Stimpson and Abigail Stimpson. He had three brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Benjamin, Andrew and Mary. He had a half-brother and four half-sisters, named Thomas, Esther, Esther, Abigail and Anne.  He died on October 17th, 1762 in Newburyport, Essex, Massachusetts.1
