Udel was born on May 25th, 1858 in Golub-Dobrzyn, Poland.1   Udel's father was Cadek Pieniek and her mother was Ruchla Karas.  Her paternal grandparents were Tobiasz Pieniek and Ester Bezbrody. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Tojwie, Szymon, Genta and Nycha Fajgla.  She was the oldest of the five children.
