Martha was born in 1777 in Armley, Yorkshire, England.  Martha's father was Thomas REDSHAW and her mother was Martha BOOTH.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert REDSHAW and Mary NEWTON.  She had five brothers and three sisters, named James, Robert, John, William, Joseph, Nanny, Elisabeth and Mally.  She was the eighth oldest of the nine children.
