    Zigmund was born in Russian Poland (Lublin area?) to Michael and Chaya in 1881.  He emigrated to London around 1900, and married Louisa Jane Shepherd.  In 1918, Zigmund was recruited into the British army as a "friendly alien" (Russian citizen).  He served as a private  in the1002nd Russian Labour Corps (Royal Fusiliers) in the French theater.  He was discharged and became a British citizen in 1919, and received the British War Medal in 1922.  He had a barbershop in Exmouth Street, off Commecial Road in Stepney.  Zigmund and Louisa had five  children, all born in London:  Rose (b. 1905; d. Bournemouth, Dorset, UK 1997); Harry (b. 1906; d. London, 1923); Eva (b. 1910; d. London, 1911); Sidney (b. 1914; d. London, 2003); and Doris (b. 1921; d. Australia, 2005).  Zigmund died on May 18, 1932 and is buried in the Enfield Jewish Cemetery in Greater London.

    Steve Strouzer:  As far as the barbering connection is concerned, all of the brothers were barbers to start with, and great-grandfather Michael in
    Lublin was a barber-surgeon - haircuts, dentistry, minor operations, accoucheur, etc. Zigmund, Isaac, Joseph and Sam were all barbers, my dad was, and so ws his sister Rose (ladies' hairdresser.)
