Jefferson GIBBENS

Jefferson was born on October 2nd, 1802. Jefferson's father was John C. GIBBENS and his mother was Katherine HOROBAUGH. His paternal grandparents were Benjamin GIBBENS and FNU DENT; his maternal grandparents were Philip HOROBAUGH and FNU LNU. He had a brother and five sisters, named James, Sarah, Rachel, Elizabeth, Nancy and Louisa. He had seven half-brothers and a half-sister, named John Peyton, Anthony Leach, William, Alexander, David, Robert, FNU and Eleanor. He died at the age of 72 on March 21st, 1875.

  Gibbens-Butcher: "He was in height six feet, 156 pounds, muscular and active, hair black, eyes gray and unusually piercing, complexion light, changing in after years to a more florid tint, quiet and unassuming in manners, firm in convictions of duty, unswerving in integrity, and open and generous in all his ways."
  
  Jefferson was "a Whig of the Henry Clay school" who cast a "resolute" vote for Lincoln and Hamlin in 1860. also a stockholder in the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad and the Marietta & Ohio line leading west from Parkersburg. See the Gibbens-Butcher genealogy for some great stories.
