James was born on February 2nd, 1799.  James' father was John C. GIBBENS and his mother was Katherine HOROBAUGH.  His paternal grandparents were Benjamin GIBBENS and FNU DENT; his maternal grandparents were Philip HOROBAUGH and FNU LNU.  He had a brother and five sisters, named Jefferson, Sarah, Rachel, Elizabeth, Nancy and Louisa.  He had seven half-brothers and a half-sister, named John Peyton, Anthony Leach, William, Alexander, David, Robert, FNU and Eleanor.
