    Some years ago I wondered about Fruma's birthday, because with Meyer having been born in 1870, 36 years is an awfully long time for one woman to be bearing children.  Not impossible, depending on age when she started, but still... I discussed this with your Aunt Shirley, and I think it was from her that I learned that Fruma had lied about her age, and was probably about 10 years older.  I think the story was that she had lied about her age to her first husband, to make her younger than he was, and then continued to lie about it, using the later birth date for her entry into the US.  (...) Here is another wrinkle:  My parents visited Fruma in California before she died, and my father was not convinced that she was genuinely the missing sister of Meyer, Simon and Dave.  But my father was a suspicious sort.

    I recall hearing the following from my father:
    
    When Meyer, Simon and Dave left Russia, they left behind a sister.  She did not emigrate because she was planning to marry, and also because of the need to care for the parents.  This was Fruma.  They stayed in touch with her until about 1940, but during the war they lost touch and did not know if she was still alive.  It was only in the early 1950s that they found her again, and in the early 1960s when my uncle Sam (Meyer's oldest son) went to Russia he saw her and her husband and children.
