Alexander was born in 1796 in Falkirk and his baptism took place there on December 18th, 1796.  Alexander's father was Alexander Walker and his mother was Helen Laurence.  His maternal grandparents were John Laurance and <Unknown>. He had a brother and three sisters, named John, Jean, Isabel and Janet.  He was the second youngest of the five children.  He died before 1855.
