Jean was born in 1790 in Falkirk and her baptism took place there on March 19th, 1790.  Jean's father was Alexander Walker and her mother was Helen Laurence.  Her maternal grandparents were John Laurance and <Unknown>. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Alexander, John, Isabel and Janet.  She was the oldest of the five children.
