Richard's father was John Turner and his mother was Elisabeth Manuel.  His paternal grandparents were John Turner and Janet Marshall. He had five brothers and two sisters, named John, James, Peter, William, Robert, Janet and Mary.  He was the third youngest of the eight children. He had a half-sister named Mary.  He died at the age of 84 on April 9th, 1940 in Edinburgh.^3 4 5
