Jonathon was born on February 13th, 1859 in Monkton.  Jonathon's father was David McMurran and his mother was Allison McClymont.  His paternal grandparents were Jonathon McMurren and Susan McAllan. He had a brother and three sisters, named William, Anne, Susanah and Elisabeth.  He was the youngest of the five children.  He died at the age of 26 in 1885 in Kilmarnock.
