Annie's father was Archibald Kerr and her mother was Euphemia Towers. Her paternal grandparents were Andrew Kerr and Agnes Harley; her maternal grandparents were Michael Towers and Janet Mathie. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Andrew, Michael, Archibald, Janet, Agnes, Agnes and Euphemia. She was the third oldest of the eight children. She had a half-sister named Margaret.
