Walker was born on March 17th, 1827 in Falkirk and his baptism took place there on March 18th, 1827. Walker's father was James Henderson and his mother was Isabel Walker.  His paternal grandparents were James Henderson and Jean Aitken; his maternal grandparents were Alexander Walker and Helen Laurence. He had five brothers and three sisters, named James, Alexander, John, Michael, Robert, Helen, Janet and Jean.  He was the third youngest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 82 in 1909 in Glasgow.
