Alexander's father was James Glen and his mother was Lilias (Lilly) Henderson. His maternal grandparents were James Henderson and Jane Warden. He had two brothers and three sisters, named James, John, Jeanie, Agnes and Lily. He was the youngest of the six children. He died at the age of 80 in 1968 in Falkirk.
