Alexander was born on February 1st, 1884 in Glasgow.1  Alexander's father was Hugh Drummond and his mother was Margaret Sutherland.  His paternal grandparents were William Drummond and Christian Campbell. He had five brothers and two sisters, named William, Hugh, James, Albert, John, Jane and Margaret.  He was the fourth youngest of the eight children.  He died from a heart attack, coronary thrombosis, angina pectoris, malignant peptic ulcer, at the age of 65 on September 21st, 1949 in Port Elizabeth.  He was buried in Port Elizabeth.2 3
