Andrew was born on March 16th, 1786 in Denny.

Andrew's father was James Bruce and his mother was Agnes Denovan. He had nine brothers and two sisters, named John, Margaret, Margaret, Archibald, James, William, Margaret, Thomas, Thomas, Isobell and Agnes. He was the second youngest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 80 in 1866 in Denny.
