Pauline was born in 1876 in Odd Rode, Cheshire.1   Pauline's father was Samuel Sproston and her mother was Paulina Archer.  Her maternal grandparents were Samuel Archer and Sarah. She had five brothers and four sisters, named Samuel, Harry, Job, Enos, James, Frances, Sarah, Jane and Mary.  She was the fourth youngest of the ten children.
