Sarah was born in 1874 in Stockport, Cheshire.1   Sarah's father was Thomas Elson and her mother was Abigal.  Her paternal grandparents were Patterson Elson and Catherine. She had five sisters named Mary, Eliza, Emily, Florence and Elizabeth.  She was the oldest of the six children.
