Matilda was born in 1153 in Belvoir Castle, Leicestershire, England.1   Matilda's father was Earl of Arundel William (The Strong Hand) d'Aubigney III and her mother was Princess Adelicia (The Fair Maid) of Brabrant.  Her paternal grandparents were Lord of Buckingham William d'Aubigney and Mary Bigod; her maternal grandparents were Duke of Lower Lorraine Godfrey (The Bearded) of Brabrant and Countess Ida de Chiny. She had two brothers and a sister, named le Breton, Simon and Alice.  She was the youngest of the four children. She had two half-brothers named Le Breton and Ralph.  She died at the age of 57 in 1210 in Strathearn, Perthshire, England.1
