William, known as le Breton, was born in 1140 in Burkenham, Norfolk, England.1   Le Breton's father was Earl of Arundel William (The Strong Hand) d'Aubigney III and his mother was Princess Adelicia (The Fair Maid) of Brabrant.  His paternal grandparents were Lord of Buckingham William d'Aubigney and Mary Bigod; his maternal grandparents were Duke of Lower Lorraine Godfrey (The Bearded) of Brabrant and Countess Ida de Chiny. He had a brother and two sisters, named Simon, Alice and Matilda.  He was the oldest of the four children. He had two half-brothers named Le Breton and Ralph.  He died at the age of 53 on December 24th, 1193 in Norfolk, England.1
