Thomas was born in 1827.1  Thomas' father was William Gibson and his mother was Elizabeth Lucas.  His maternal grandparents were William Lucas and Martha Gray. He had four brothers and three sisters, named George, Hugh, Job, William, Mary, Emma and Anne.  He was the oldest of the eight children.
