William was born in 1837.1  William's father was William Gibson and his mother was Elizabeth Lucas.  His maternal grandparents were William Lucas and Martha Gray. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, George, Hugh, Job, Mary, Emma and Anne.  He was the third youngest of the eight children.
