Willem was born on August 19th, 1896 in Tulbagh, Cape Of Good Hope, South Africa and his baptism took place on September 22nd, 1896 in Wolwefontein, Tulbagh conducted by Reverend .1   Willem's father was Thomas Philippus Winterbach and his mother is Johanna Elizabeth Lotz. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named Petrus, Willem, Daniël, Elizabeth, Magdalena, Johanna, Dorothea, Jacoba, Aletta and Jacoba.  He was the fourth oldest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 1 in September 1897 in Wolwefontein, Tulbagh.1
