Hendrik, known as Hennie, was born on November 24th, 1923. Hennie's father was Tobias Johannes Winterbach and his mother was Susanna Philippina Louw. His paternal grandparents were Hendrik Pieter Winterbach and Sara Adriana du Plessis. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Hendrik, Boetie, Gawie, Don, Sussie, Sarie, Wies, Dollie, Kitty and Gerty. He was the third youngest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 76 on September 24th, 2000. He was buried in De Doorns Nuwe NG Kerk begraafplaas.¹
