Dirk Jacobus Winterbach

Dirk was born on October 6th, 1853 in Tulbagh and his christening took place on October 1st, 1875 in NG Kerk, Tulbagh conducted by the reverend.¹ Dirk's father was Dirk Jacobus Winterbach and his mother was Hester Francina Elizabetha Verster. His paternal grandparents were Johannes Carel Winterbach and Dorethea Elizabetha Theron. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named Johan, Isak, Koos, Hendrik, Piet, Tobias, Louis, Susanna, Dorothea, Johanna and Hester. He died at the age of 84 on August 10th, 1938 in Lydenburg. He was buried in Lydenburg old cemetery.²¹
